ESPNU is owned by ESPN Inc. The channel is a joint venture between ABC Television Group which controls 80% stake and Hearst Corporation with 20% stake. ESPNU was launched in 2005, with the first broadcast originating from Gallagher-Iba Arena which is Oklahoma State University’s campus. The channel mainly covers college athletics and at times used as an outlet for regular ESPN programming. ESPNU is based alongside ESPN’s headquarters in Bristol, Connecticut. A recent study conducted in 2015 showed that ESPNU is available in around 73,594,000 households with a pay television subscription which makes up 63.2% of homes with a television in the US.
